The way I eat

I thought I'd start a diet blog to go alongside my training blog. I'll start with a bit of background.

I'm a FFB - former fat boy for those unfamiliar with the term. I basically love all things carb - cornflakes with loads of milk and sugar, biscuits, pretzels, etc, etc, etc, and I love eating late at night. Problem is that with my endomorphic tendencies, carbs and late night eating combine to give me ample padding around the middle.

About a year ago I decided that I didn't have to accept that the padding was here to stay. I experimented with a few different eating patterns until I settled on how I eat now.

My rules - some of you will recognize these rules  - I don't profess to have discovered them - only adapted them to my own needs.

eat 5/6 times a day

protein with every meal

lots of green veg

carbs only at breakfast and post workout - as I train early morning, this means my daily carb intake is complete by about 8 am

don't mix carbs and fat in large amounts in the same meal.

non calorific drinks only and about a gallon of water a day

make sure I get enough fat in my diet

I eat like this for 6 days every week and have saturday off, where I basically eat what I like - it helps me stay on the 'wagon'.

I currently weigh 78 kilos as of last time on the scales. I have no idea of bodyfat%, but I can say I am currently in the best shape of my life.

Diet (or should that be nutrition?) thoughts

Quite possibly the hardest part of a healthy lifestyle as we've (well most of us) have been raised on fast food, junk, chocolate and convenience.

Good work on the diet - its important to find something that makes you happy as sticking to a diet that is unappealing just doesn't work - the human instinct for sustenance is much greater than the human instinct for looking good.

The other thing is that it helps a lot of people to stop looking at things as a "diet" - the term has negative meaning, look at food as a nutrition programme.

Anyway, glad I set up a diet category - back to work in making this site even more functional
