WOMEN

Hi

I've just waiting on my 8kg Kettlebell being delivered - should be here this week.

Was just wondering if there were any women on this Forum that could offer some advice? If so, would you mind getting in touch.

Cheers

Suz

High frequency & high volume workouts

Since Steve said that he does 2 hours per day minimum, Its got me thinking. I've always been told that short workouts with lots of rest is the answer but is it really?

Judging by pro athletes, soldiers, people with strenuous jobs, coaches and even some prisoners etc - I'm starting to believe that it doen't matter how often you train as long as you get good sleep/nutrition.

My question is (to Steve or anyone else who works out a lot) how did you get up to this level & frequency of training? Was it built up gradually? or did you force yourself to train that much and just adapt?

Pull-up bar

I'm sick of the flimsy doorway pull-up bars - they're not wide/high enough and are generally unstable.

I also don't want to drill any holes in the wall (I live in rented accommodation)

Does anyone know where I can get/build a proper pullup bar like this: http://www.tacticalathlete.com/tapsbar.htm but in the UK.

Ideally I'd like to set it up in my garden and do the crossfit style kipping pullups so height/strength is important as I'm 6'3" & 17st.

It'd be an ideal thing for LKBs to stock ;) or maybe I should just blag some scaffolding from a building site or something & make my own :)

Im new & in need of help...

Hello,

Im new to this but want to start training with KBs.

I go to the gym every week & do mostly cardio with some free weights & dumbells etc & want to use KBs as well at home but i dont know where to start. Can anyone recommend what is best for a girl to start out with - 8kgs or 12kgs?

Also can anyone recommend any books/dvds to learn how to use them?

I just want to improve my fitness more & tone & lose a bit of weight?

Any help would be great! Thanks :)

Kettlebell training for martial arts

I've been doing Muay Thai for a few months and have sort of ditched weight training altogether, I was wondering whether Kettlebells would offer me the sort of functional strength I would require for Muay Thai as I've read they're great for a number of sports where explosiveness is required

RKC etc

Does anyone have any opinions/experience of the Dragondoor RKC?

I've never been a 'Pavelite' myself & have never thought that they were the gospel of KB training like a lot of people do...

But I saw this page http://www.dragondoor.com/wpkb29.html where you can become an RKC in Denmark next year. There seems to be a lot of great trainers who are RKC - but £750 for a weekend! Seems a bit steep to me (just like their KBs ;).

Basically, I'm going to be doing a Masters Degree this year which has nothing to do with sports but I train a lot of my mates and really get a kick out of it. So I'm definitely interested in in getting into personal training - can anyone tell me what the best qualification to be a personal trainer in the UK is that doesn't involve spending a grand on going to denmark?

Cheers,
Marcus

First post

Hi everyone!

I've been using Kettlebells for about 2.5 years - have a set of 24s and a set of 32s (the latter being from LKBs). I'm hoping to get some bigger ones soon & also a 16 for juggling. I'm going to start posting a blog on here as the site I use at the moment is doesn't really cater for kettlebell users.

I just wondered if there was anyone on here interested in GS stuff (long/short cycle & GS snatches). I'm just getting into it - it can get pretty hardcore!

Circuits challenge

The guys at our work gym have issued a challenge: complete the following in under 18minutes (in any order):

* 40 push-ups: straight back+legs, chest/nose to just off the floor
* 40 sit-ups: lying on back, feet about 6" back from butt, hands on thigh, lift to palms over knees -- sounds weird but try it, makes sense, and definitely isolates abs)
* 30 burpees: standing, to crouch, to jump feet back, to crouch, to standing again; no jump required
* 10 pull-ups, all the way down to just before fully extended
* 2,000m run on treadmill

Anyone reasonably fit should get this in under 18minutes although it is quite tough when it's back to back like this. On Friday I did it in 10:31, one of the guys who works at the gym did it in 9:42. The 2,000m run is where it's won or lost! The 9:42 score involved running at 18.2km/h continuously.

Enjoy :-)

Paul (who really shouldn't be running but can't resist a challenge...)
